Game on . . .

"She called me over to her laptop the other day. 'Daddy, I think you’ll like this,' she grinned. And then I watched this. And then I watched it again. Pretty good shot, eh, even if the killing dynamic is something of a morphed deal, where the player gets more opportunities and implied tags than many of us turkey travelers do in a multiple-state season."

Turkey Camp Debate: Belly-Crawling, Fanning or Just Calling?

"Safe? Stupid? Smart? Using turkey fans and decoys to move on gobblers and henned-up flocks is really nothing new, unless you count the marketing spin. I’ve done it. You’ve done it. Heck, historical evidence shows the Native Americans originally had their own forms of tactical hunting deception.

Now it seems everyone is trying it. In this age of hyper-realistic decoys, repositioning on hung-up birds is a trending tactic – especially in private land locations. Doing it on heavily hunted public land is without question often a fool’s choice.

Why the concern? Safety. Risk and reward occurs by degrees in turkey hunting." –Steve Hickoff

Pennsylvania Grouse Hunting 20 Years Ago

Some 20 years ago, self-timer shot, grouse hunting PA's second season. Heirloom Fox Sterlingworth in my right hand. Fresh ruff in my left. Love those ridges where I grew up hunting.
